An appeal to Maoists, administration to reopen school

By IANS,

Patna : Hundreds of students of a school in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district have appealed to the Maoists and the district administration to help them resume classes which were stopped after the rebels beat up two teachers earlier this month.

Tengrari High School has been closed since Feb 2 after the guerrillas badly beat up the teachers on the evening of Feb 1 for opposing and removing the black flag they hoisted on Republic Day.

Schoolchildren, with placards in their hands during a march Monday, appealed to the Maoists to help them reopen the school.

“They have decided to visit some villages for the next three days to create awareness to reopen the school. On Friday, they will hold a meeting with villagers to decide the future course of action,” a district official told IANS over the phone.

“School teachers have refused to attend school till security is provided to them,” said Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, a leader of the district school teacher association.
