Berlin : Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn Wednesday accused Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi of committing a ‘genocide’in his country amid a mounting death toll among anti-government protesters.
Talking on German radio, Asselborn said the crackdown by Qaddafi’s security apparatus was tantamount to a ‘genocide.’
‘I cannot imagine that the world would merely watch as hundreds or
thousands of people (in Libya) would get slaughtered,’ he added.
Asselborn’s remarks come in the wake of Qaddafi’s threats to fight
his opponents to his ‘last drop of blood.’
Qaddafi who has ruled his country with an iron fist for 42 years,
labeled the Libyan opposition ‘rats’ and ‘people on drugs.’
His security forces were reported to be losing control of several major cities, after mass protests and their suppression by the
army left hundreds dead.
