Malappuram: After the first rank in Medical Entrance Exams, Malappuram is again in the news of ranks with the second rank of Jafar in the Engineering Entrance Exams of this year. Jafar hails from Mattathur in Malappuram. Irfan, the first rank holder of the Medical Entrance Exams, also hails from Mattathur.
Jafar has got 384th rank in the All India Engineering Entrance Exams and he is the 12th rank holder in Kerala in that. He has got admissions at the IIT Chennai for Electrical Engineering. He had got 301st rank in the Engineering Entrance Exam of last year and had got admission in a college in Thiruvananthapuram for Mechanical Engineering. But he left that and tried for a better luck this year.
Eldest son of Kunjaramutti and Aasiya, Jafar studied in the Thuhfathussibyan Aided Mappila UP School till 7th standard and then in the Government High School at Othukkungal till 10th standard. He did his higher secondary at the Rajas Higher Secondary School in Kottakkal, from where he bagged 1139 out of 1200 marks in the final exam.
A total of 1,01,905 students had written the exam in 297 centres across Kerala, New Delhi and Dubai. Among them, 65,632 students got eligibility and 56,336 of them got place in the rank list. 91 boys and 9 girls found place in the first 100 ranks, which include 19 from Ernakulam district, 13 from Thiruvananthapuram, 11 from Kottayam, 10 from Malappuram and nine from Thrissur.
The ranks have come as a sweet answer to the last Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan who had once said that the children of Malappuram were winning exams by copying. The statement had raised much criticism then and eve now, the victory of the students of Malappuram is projected as an answer to VS.
