Beijing : Various disasters in China affected over 430 million people last year, according to a government report.
A total of 7,844 people were dead or missing, Xinhua reported citing a statement issued by the ministry of civil affairs.
The ministry, however, did not give separate numbers of the dead or missing.
The disasters also resulted in economic losses of 534 billion yuan (around $82 billion).
The country witnessed multiple disasters, including a severe earthquake in Qinghai’s Yushu and a landslide in Gansu’s Zhouqu, the report said.
The central government sent 3.41 billion yuan to help the affected people rebuild their homes.
In Zhouqu, every household received reconstruction subsidy up to 100,000 yuan from the central and local governments, the report said.
