Kolkata : A gun factory was unearthed and a huge quantity of ammunition seized from a house owned by a man suspected to be close to the Communist Party of India-Marxist in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Friday, police said.
“Today (Friday) we have recovered almost 650 rounds of ammunitions and more than a dozen improvised firearms. There was a specific input and accordingly police searched the premises of Pravakar Sarkar and recovered the arms,” said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi.
When asked about Sarkar’s political affiliation, Tripathi said: “We are yet to ascertain his political affiliation. But local villagers claimed that he has links with the CPI-M.”
Villagers told police that Sarkar is the brother of CPI-M West Midnapore district leader Tapan Ghosh, who is also an accused in Jan 4, 2001 incident in which 11 Trinamool Congress supporters were allegedly burnt alive by CPI-M activists.
