New Delhi: A Delhi court Thursday extended the judicial custody of former telecommunications minister A. Raja till March 17 along with three other co-accused arrested for their alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge O.P. Saini sent Shahid Usman Balwa, the owner of DB Realty, R.K. Chandolia, former personal secretary to Raja, and Siddarth Behura, former telecom secretary, to 14 days judicial custody after they were produced before the court on expiry of their earlier remand order.
“All three accused are remanded to judicial custody till March 17,” Saini said.
Raja appeared before the court through video conferencing, while Chandolia, Behura and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa were brought to the court room.
As the proceedings started, Raja greeted the judge and marked his presence.
Meanwhile, Balwa pleaded before the court that he needed to be examined by specialists for the orthopaedic and gastric problems he is facing.
“He (Balwa) has already been examined at the jail dispensary and he needs to be checked by specialist doctors,” said counsel for Balwa, adding that he should get treatment at any government hospital.
Raja, Behura and Chandolia were arrested by CBI on Feb 2 in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
Balwa was later arrested from Mumbai on Feb 8.
