New Delhi: Two men have been arrested for the murder of 79-year-old Anna Mammen, mother of prominent city lawyer Rebecca John, police said Saturday. One of the men had carried out repairs at Mammen’s home two months ago and hatched the plot to rob her.
Imran Khan, 21, and Samir Khan, 20, were arrested from Trilokpuri area of east Delhi Friday, police said.
“Imran had done white washing at Mammen’s house two months ago and since then had made up his mind to rob the house,” Deputy Commissioner of Police O.P. Mishra said.
During interrogation, the duo told the police that they overpowered Mammen at her residence at Vivek Vihar in east Delhi March 8 and strangled her, before ransacking the home for cash and valuables.
“Imran took advantage of his familiarity with Mammen to enter her house along with his associate Samir,” he added.
“Some jewellery, a motor cycle (purchased with the robbed money) and Rs.81,000 in cash were recovered from their possession,” Mishra said.
Imran also told police that he gambled with the robbed cash and lost Rs.50,000.
Mammen was the mother of city lawyer Rebecca John, who is representing Rajesh Talwar in the sensational Aarushi murder case.
She was a retired teacher and was giving tuitions at her home to students of classes 10 and 12 in two batches.
