Raja to remain in Tihar for another 14 days

By IANS,

New Delhi: Former communications minister A. Raja and three other accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case will remain in Tihar Jail for another 14 days after a Delhi court Thursday extended their remand till March 31.

Raja along with former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, his former personal secretary R.K. Chandolia and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa are lodged in the high-security Tihar Jail here.

The four appeared before Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge O.P. Saini personally after video-conferencing facility faced some technical problems.

The court extended their judicial custody on a plea by the CBI which contended that its probe was yet to be completed.

The investigating agency also submitted that the four accused are “highly influential” and could tamper with evidence if released at this stage of investigation.

“All the four accused are remanded to judicial custody till March 31,” said the court.

Raja was arrested by the CBI along with Behura and Chandolia on Feb 2, while Balwa was arrested from Pune Feb 8.

Meanwhile, a Tis Hzari court which was hearing a private complaint of Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy in the 2G scam has transferred the case to the district judge.

The district judge on March 25 will decide as to where the case is to be taken up.

After the apex court direction, the Delhi High Court has formed a special court at Patiala House court complex to look into the 2G scam matter.

CBI special Judge O.P. Saini will now handle all the cases related to 2G spectrum allocation case.
