Chennai: The AIADMK’s move of sealing seat-sharing agreements with 10 parties for 74 seats and announcing its candidates for the balance 160 Tamil nadu assembly seats for the forthcoming polls has really upset its long-time ally MDMK led by Vaiko.
MDMK officials told IANS Thursday that the party would decide on the future course of action at its meeting of the district secretaries here Saturday.
“From the start of seat sharing discussions, AIADMK did not come up with good numbers for us. In 2006, we contested in 35 seats and won six. This time, we had asked for the same number of seats. However, citing the increased number of allies, they wanted us to reduce our demand, which we did and brought down to 23 seats,” a party official told IANS.
He said the MDMK felt that the AIADMK was in no mood to accommodate its long-time ally.
According to him, it was clear over the last one week that AIADMK would prefer to keep MDMK out of its alliance.
“Initially, they offered six seats. Yesterday (Wednesday), the AIADMK offered nine seats whereas our leader Vaiko said the party cannot come down below 21. And in the evening, the AIADMK issued its list of candidates for 160 seats,” he said.
