Kolkata: The Election Commission has convened a high-level meeting in New Delhi Friday between top police officers and government officials of several states to discuss security arrangements for the five poll-bound states, an official said Thursday.
“The chief secretaries, home secretaries, directors general of police (DGPs) and chief electoral officers (CEOs) of all the five poll-bound states and their neighbouring states have been asked to attend the meeting convened by the EC. They will review security aspects and measures like deployment of forces along the inter-state borders,” said West Bengal’s additional CEO N.K. Sahana.
“The officers of the neighbouring states have been called to discuss how close coordination can be maintained to enhance security arrangements to prevent any kind of arms smuggling and intrusion of fake voters to have a safe and peaceful elections,” he said.
Sahana said the inter-state borders of West Bengal will not be sealed but there will be a strong vigil so stop any kind of illegal activities. The international border will however be sealed.
“The EC already had a meeting with the Border Security Force (BSF) and it has been decided that the border with Bangladesh will be sealed two days prior to the elections,” he added.
