The explanation was sent to the PMO after the appearance of media reports that the V.K. Shunglu Committee, appointed to probe corruption in the runup to the Games held last October, had named Khanna for inadequacies, the official said.

According to sources, a bailout package for builder Emmar MGF was decided in consultation with the union urban development ministry and no compromise with the “national interest” was done.

Meanwhile, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalled the proceedings in the Delhi assembly Thursday over the issue, leading to removal of some party legislators from the house on Speaker Yoganand Shastri’s orders.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she had only heard about the findings of the report through the media. “I got it through media and I don’t have any idea about the report,” she said.

The committee has submitted two reports, one on the Games village in east Delhi and the other on city’s infrastructure development for the event.
