Dikshit attacks MCD, calls it inefficient

By IANS,

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has failed to fulfill the expectations of the people and is an example of poor management.

Speaking at a public rally in Tri Nagar area of west Delhi, Dikshit said: “Their (MCD)decisions have been sluggish as well as confusing and contradictory, resulting in the harassment of people. The administration in the MCD has become ineffective and needs to be restructured.”

According to her, the BJP had been nurturing the politics of convenience and opportunism and the issue of “ghost employees” in the MCD was a fine example of it.

“Even the (Delhi) high court has taken note of this matter. The public opinion is in favour of bringing substantial improvements in the MCD’s functioning,” added Dikshit.

The Delhi government reportedly wants to split the MCD into five units.

“The opposition party in Delhi has been organising agitations on all irrelevant issues to keep themselves in the news as they fear defeat in the next elections, including for the MCD,” said Dikshit.

Lambasting the BJP for not appreciating the developmental work done in Delhi, the chief minister said that the city witnessed excellent development in the last 12 years and the work should not be hampered due to political differences.
