Kabul : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said there was need for a “thorough investigation” into the presence of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad in Pakistan.
“As far as the killing of Osama bin Laden is concerned, the picture that emerged immediately after it was with amount of confusion whether he was there with the active pre-eminence of certain forces in Pakistan or if he was there and his presence was not known, this was conflicting,” the prime minister said when asked on his reaction on Osama’s killing by US security forces May 2.
“Therefore my first reaction was that one should need to go for a thorough investigation clearly to know the truth of the presence of Osama bin Laden (in Pakistan),” he added.
He was addressing a joint press conference with President Hamid Karzai.
Manmohan Singh is visiting Afghanistan after a gap of six years. Karzai has already come to India 10 times since 2002.
