New Delhi : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani Thursday said it would have been better if Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati talked to the protesting farmers in Greater Noida.
“The struggle has been going on there since so long… it would have been better if the chief minister would have sat and talked to them and supported them,” Advani told reporters here.
He also underlined the need for a “justified system of land acquisition”.
“Farmers all across the country have been struggling for land rights. This is their livelihood, and the way it is taken away, definitely there should be a justified system for land acquisition so that they don’t have to go through the torture and struggle as they are facing today,” he said.
Advani also said that the situation was not good as people had to struggle hard for everything.
“People have to struggle for everything in India. This is not a good situation,” he added.
Farmers in the Greater Noida village are demanding a hike in the compensation paid to them for their land which has been taken by government for construction of the Yamuna Express Highway.
