Uttar Pradesh police implement citizen’s charter

Lucknow: Announcing implementation of citizen’s charter, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Brij Lal Friday directed the officials to ensure redressal of public complaints within time-frame.

Terming the public interest as of “paramount importance in a democracy”, Lal said, “As addressing public grievances is the main responsibility of any government department, it must be ensured that various jobs of police related to a common man are performed within a stipulated time.”

Lal directed senior police officials, including Inspector General Of Police (IG) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to undertake regular tours in parts of the state for monitoring the proper execution of citizen’s charter and time-bound redressal of public complaints.

“Directions have been issued for displaying of the citizen’s charter at different places that in turn would make the people more aware about their rights,” said Lal.

According to Additional Director General of police (Law and Order) S.K. Singh, a nodal officer would also be deployed in every district of the state to ensure public grievances are timely solved.

Citing the time-frame for some of the police services, Singh said a period of 15 days has been fixed for passport verification including the local intelligence unit (LIU), 15 days for character verification and 20 days for arms licence verification.
