Kolkata: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Sunday said the proposal of recalling elected representatives will be difficult to implement in a huge country like India.
“It is easy to demand it, but difficult to implement. India is the largest democracy with a huge population over 122 crore. Under such circumstances, I don’t know how it will work,” said Mukherjee.
“On what criteria will an elected representative be recalled, whether the constitution will allow it – these questions will arise,” he said while addressing a panchayat convention here.
Activist Anna Hazare had earlier said that if candidates spending crores of rupees in elections are rejected by voters, it will discourage them from overspending and would control election expenditure.
