Raipur : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh asked collectors of the state’s 18 districts Monday to improve the government’s image by speeding up public welfare and development works in transparent manner.
“You must speed up public welfare works and development projects in your districts in a transparent manner. Your good work will hugely build up the government’s image and of course people too will recall you for a longer period,” he said in his address at a collectors’ conference.
He advised collectors to focus on farmers issues such as arrangements to procure their paddy at government support price, providing water and electricity to schools, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and other smaller but key development works at village and block level during the next two years to win over people.
Raman Singh, who is heading a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the mineral-rich state since December 2003, said that the state has done good work in certain sectors manly in food security during BJP’s eight-year rule but still a lot of efforts and commitments needed from collectors to execute development projects and employment schemes across the state to live up to peoples’ expectations.
The opposition Congress has termed Raman Singh’s call to the collectors a move to pacify voters who are “largely unhappy with the BJP government”.
Assembly polls are due late in 2013.
