Karachi : The Pakistan kabaddi team will leave for India Oct 30 to participate in the Kabaddi World Cup beginning Nov 1.
Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) secretary Muhammad Sarwar said they would send a strong outfit to compete in the mega-event to be held across the state of Punjab. Fourteen teams will participate in the World Cup and the city of Bhatinda will hold the opening ceremony. The matches will be held in Bhatinda as well as Ludhiana.
“Our boys are in good shape and well prepared for the event. We are expecting some real good results from them,” Sarwar was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
Kabaddi is a famous South Asian traditional team sport which is played regularly in the rural areas.
Source in PKF said the team for the World Cup will be announced two days before its departure.
Sports circles believe that Pakistan would hopefully perform well as their morale is very high after defeating the strong Indian team in the recent South Asian Beach Games.
Pakistan outclassed their arch-rivals India 42-33 to clinch the gold at the Beach Games in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
PKF has also been preparing for the Asian Championship scheduled to be held in December in Pakistan.
Pakistan had extended invitation to 12 teams well in time, but so far only China have confirmed their participation for the championship.
