‘SP compromising national security by appeasing Muslims’

Lucknow : The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Thursday slammed the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh for its “overzealousness” to please Muslims.

Taking offence at the state Home Department’s move to seek the views of the Law Department on the status and charges levelled against terrorists in the state, state president of the BJP Surya Pratap Shahi accused the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government “of playing with national interests.”

“By trying to withdraw cases against the perpetrators of henious bomb blasts in the courts of Lucknow and Faizabad and the bomb blast at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi, the state government has brought minority appeasement to a new low,” the BJP leader said.

Blasting the 38-year-old chief minister for emulating his father Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had tried to revoke the ban on SIMI, the senior BJP leader said: “The fact that the state government has announced a grant of Rs.30,000 as education incentive for Muslim girls and not for girls of other religions smacks of a definite bias and appeasement for Muslims.”

Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal has also criticised the state government for trying to appease the Muslim community at the cost of national security.
