Mumbai: Mumbai has always been in news for heavy rainfall and but this year it’s just the opposite. The month of July, when the Ramadan began, received the lowest rainfall in the last decade. Ramadan sees more water usage in the mosques so the Imams in the Mosques in Mumbai began asking Namazis to use the water carefully and judiciously.
“We should never waste water whether we have it or not. Its precious and we have to take greater care that our next generation doesn’t face the predicted water crisis” said Maulana Mateen of Bengai Masjid in Madanpura.

Some have put up banners outside and the stickers in the mosques to remind people that Water is Allah’s precious gift which should be used carefully.
Namaz-e-Istisqa, special Namaz for rain, was also offered on this Sunday at 10.00 am in the Mastan Talav Ground South Mumbai. Noman, a Computer Engineer said, “Jamiat Ahle Hadis called for Namaz-e-Istisqa at a very short notice but the response of people was very good. Hundreds of people gathered and prayed for rain during Ramdan.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the nodal agency to supply water in Mumbai has enforced the cut since July 1 following subnormal showers and receding lake levels, and has appealed to residents to use water sparingly.
Another festival of Govinda is coming soon in Mumbai on August 10 when the water requirement shoots up 10% and most of the mandals have reportedly agreed to cut down the usage of water.
