Israel embassy security beefed up

New Delhi : Security of the Israel embassy and its employees was beefed up Wednesday, two days after a bomb blast gutted an embassy car, police said Wednesday.

Dharmendra Kumar, additional commissioner of police (law and order), said police in coordination with a special force for diplomatic security will provide security to Israel embassy employees in the capital.

The three-layered security has been beefed up inside and outside the Israel embassy. “All the CCTV cameras installed on the Aurangzeb Road on which the embassy is situated have been kept under police control room radar to avoid any untoward happening or suspicious activity,” said Seju P. Kuruvilla, additional deputy commissioner of police, New Delhi.

A special team of police commandos, working in the coordination with special force, will specially protect all Israel embassy officials during their visits outside from embassy, said Dharmendra Kumar.

The commandos will replace security personnel in plain clothes who were deputed by the the embassy for its employees.

“All the embassy employees have been advised not to park their vehicles in open areas. However, the schedule of embassy staffers’ visit to embassy, airport or any other place in the city will be decided keeping in mind better security facility,” said an official of the special force for diplomatic security.

Monday’s bomb attack on an Israeli embassy vehicle on Aurangzeb Road injured four people, including Tal Yehoshua, 40, wife of a Israeli defence attache.

An unidentified motorcyclist attached an improvised explosive magnetic device to the Israeli embassy car which exploded into flames.
