Dhaka : Bangladesh experts have urged the government to amend a 1999 law that allows patients to get a kidney only from the relatives.
Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) president M. A. Samad said many of his patients were facing problems because of the restrictions.
The group has urged the government to amend the law to allow “emotional or altruist” kidney donation, enabling hundreds of people live a normal life.
They suggested the formation of a “central authority” to oversee organ donation, the bdnews24.com reported Saturday.
The current law allows a patient to get kidney only from brothers, sisters, father, mother, maternal, and paternal uncles and aunts.
