30 militants in Jammu’s border districts: Army

By IANS,

Jammu : There are about 20-30 militants left in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior army official said Thursday.

Maj. Gen. K.H.Singh, who heads the 25 Division deployed in these two districts, also told reporters that there are nearly 10 militants training camps in areas of Pakistani-Administered Occupied Kashmir (POK) opposite to Poonch and Rajouri districts besides in other areas.

Poonch and Rajouri were hub of militancy when it was at its peak as this area had traditional infiltration routes of militants from Pakistan across the LOC and also connected to the Kashmir valley through some accessible passes.

The army officer however expressed satisfaction over the fact that they were able to keep check on infiltration “which has reduced to negligible”. But he noted that there was no room for complacency.

“The troops are ever vigilant to counter any infiltration attempt.”
