New Delhi : A heavy downpour in the capital Tuesday afternoon failed to dampen the spirits of Durga Puja organisers and revellers alike.
“Everything is normal here. The only problem was that of slush as the ground is open but that has been taken care of,” Pradeep Kumar Sen, of the Kashmere Gate Durga Puja Pandal, told IANS.
“We are sticking to our schedule and there have been no changes,” he added.
Similar was the scenario in east Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave Puja Samiti, with the organisers admitting that the rains did cause some discomfort but no major damage.
“There were puddles of water in the ground but we have put sand on them and have dried the ground,” Shantanu Bose, an organising committee member, told IANS.
“Our cultural programme is on schedule and artistes from Kolkata have been flown here for two singing shows and an orchestral presentation which will take place in the evening,” he added.
However, some puja ‘samitis’ did bear the brunt of the heavy downpour.
“We have had to cancel two musical programmes that were scheduled to take place in the evening today (Tuesday),” Samrat Bannerjee of Durgotsab, Greater Kailash-II, told IANS.
“But our pandal is absolutely fine,” he added.
Strong winds and rain Tuesday afternoon caught Delhi residents off guard after days of pleasant sunny weather. The Met Office said that the rains were caused by a low pressure system that came from west Rajasthan.
