Guwahati : The All Assam Students Union (Aasu) Monday accused Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of suppressing facts regarding the infiltration of foreigners into the state.
Aasu adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya also told the media that a white paper released by the government was meant to protect illegal immigrants in the Assam.
“The chief minister has not only twisted the facts in the white paper but also lied,” Bhattacharya said.
“The white paper is rather a white lie,” he added.
The document, he said, had failed to provide an action plan on how to solve the problem of illegal influx and how to oust foreigners living in the state illegally.
“The white paper included only figures regarding illegal foreigners living in Assam. These figures are available with Foreigners’ Tribunals. There is nothing new in it.”
Bhattacharyya said the white paper was meant to divert the attention from the influx of foreigners into Assam.
Aasu also released a document highlighting the discussions between it and the state and central governments since 1980 over the influx of foreigners into the state.
“The white paper is a hastily prepared document intended to fool the people when the movement against illegal immigrants has again gained momentum,” Bhattacharya said.
