BJP legislator terms Himachal government most corrupt

By IANS,

Shimla : Himachal Pradesh’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Khushi Ram Balnatah, who has launched a campaign against his own party and government, Tuesday stepped up his attack against the “most corrupt regime in the state”.

“I have no hesitation in saying that some Congress MLAs (legislators) enjoyed much comfort in the BJP regime in the state this time at the cost of old and sincere BJP workers,” he told reporters.

The legislator from Rohru, once the pocket borough of former union minister Virbhadra Singh, termed the government scam-ridden and alleged that it was promoting “commission agents in routine functioning”.

“It’s unfortunate that most of the decisions of the Dhumal government failed to withstand judicial scrutiny,” he said.

The first-time BJP legislator said the genuine workers of the party, who strengthened the party, were ignored and humiliated in the Dhumal regime, while the sycophants hogged the limelight.

A close confidant of BJP vice president Shanta Kumar, Balnatah said the government’s policies had only benefited corporate houses, hydropower companies, private universities and land mafia at the cost of common man.

Balnatah, who was issued a show-cause notice by the party June 14 for demanding leadership change ahead of the assembly elections, in a letter to party president Nitin Gadkari had said: “Allegations of corruption, nepotism and regionalism are being levelled against the state government.”

BJP spokesman Ganesh Dutt said the party would take action against Balnatah for his outburst.

Though elections to the 68-member assembly are due in December, they are likely to be held in November.
