Srinagar : Two separatist guerrillas and a soldier were killed Tuesday in a gunfight, on since Monday, in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, police said.
Police here said troops of counter-insurgency 30 Rashtriya Rifles and the state police launched an operation against guerrillas in Haril Manzpora village in Kupwara Monday following information that a group of guerrillas was hiding in the area.
“The hiding militants fired at the security forces when the search operation was going on in the area. This triggered an gunfight which has now ended resulting in the death of an army soldier, and two militants,” a senior police officer said here.
Searches are still on in the area although exchange of gunfire has stopped.
