DMK upset at posters ‘defaming’ party

By IANS,

Chennai : The DMK Tuesday warned of action against party workers who put up posters here defaming the party under the guise of praising union minister M.K. Alagiri.

Alagiri is the party’s southern zone organising secretary and the eldest son of DMK president M. Karunanidhi.

The posters used inappropriate words from a Tamil movie song to criticise the DMK leadership, indicating that Alagiri is disappointed that his younger brother M.K. Stalin is being projected as the party’s next chief.

Alagiri’s supporters printed the posters to greet him on his 62nd birthday Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Karunanidhi had made it clear that he would propose Stalin as his successor or as the party’s general secretary.

“I would propose Stalin’s name as his name was earlier proposed by the party’s general secretary and I will second it,” Karunanidhi said.

The declaration by Karunanidhi is said to have upset Alagiri and his supporters.
