Assam CM against more bifurcation

Guwahati: Even as different communities are demanding separate states within Assam after the central government gave green signal to Telangana, chief minister has strictly said that the state government does not want any more bifurcation.

If the Bodo people are demanding for separate Bodoland for several years from now the Karbi people in Karbi Anglong has also started to agitate for a separate Karbi land beside a Kamatapur for the Koch-Rajbongshi people in Assam.

“Telangana issue is different than ours. Andhra Pradesh has different problems than ours. So the Congress working committee through discussions has decided something which they know and found to be right. I also know that they have been demanding it for more than 60 years,” Gogoi told reporters on Wednesday in the sidelines of a workshop on Food Security Bill in Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.

He also said that whether it is Bodoland, Karbi-Anglong, North-Cachar or the Koch Rajbonshi – all the problems should be addressed in a proper way.

“But at the same time we want them to stay together and our thing is that the centre should be given the financial package up to the standard of what financial grant is given to a independent state be it Karbi-Anglong or Six schedule and even to those development councils so that the tendency of separation does not arise and people feel justice is not done to them. And that is what we are trying to solve,” he added.

Moreover, he said that the state government’s stand is very clear on this matter and it has been said earlier also. Meanwhile a delegation of Bodo leaders has already reached Delhi under the leadership of BTADC Chief Hagrama Mohilary to press for their demand of separate state of Bodoland.
