Aligarh: Even as it applauded the developmental policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) has expressed concerns over planned conversion by some extremist Hindu organizations.
A symposium meeting by the MBMC also passed a resolution demanding a ban on organizations engaged in religious conversion.
“Article 25 of the Indian Constitution gives rights to every citizen to profess and publicized his religion but the way in which some Hindutva organizations are trying to dent the secular fabric of country by large scale conversions it will divide Indian society,” said Prof Razaullah Khan, who chaired the symposium on ‘Minorities and Governance’ held here on International Minority Rights Day on Thursday, December 18, a release said here.
Director, Muslim Chamber of Commerce & Industries (MCCI) Jasim Mohammad said Prime Minister Modi is professing equal development of all sections of the society but the central government should launch special schemes for the minorities, particularly Muslims, because a large section of them is engaged in cottage and small scale industries.
Indian Constitution has given special rights to minorities under Article 29 and 30 but in many States they are being deprived of education in their mother tongue, he said, adding, “For instance, in Uttar Pradesh Urdu medium schools are not recognized. The Uttar Pradesh government should establish and recognize Urdu medium schools.”
Prof Humayun Murad said Muslims are feeling insecure. “Large number of riots have taken place in UP but the culprits are still roaming free. Neither the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots have been rehabilitated nor have the culprits been punished,” he pointed out.
Raghuraj Singh said even Modi has accepted that 9 % Muslims had voted for BJP during Lok Sabha elections and went on to demand that the central government should ban those organizations who want to make secular India a Hindu nation.
Dr Fatima Zehra & N Jamal Ansari said our biggest concern is that some persons holding Constitutional posts are themselves professing communalism. Citing the example of UP Governor Ram Naik, he said that rulers should keep the sentiments of minorities, the release added.
