Improving economy will be a big challenge: BJP

    By IANS,

New Delhi: BJP leader Arun Jaitley Saturday blamed the indecisiveness of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the country’s poor economic situation and said it will be a “big challenge” for the BJP to manage the economy “when it comes in power”.

“In this government, the real power was with someone, and the government was run by someone else. How can a weak prime minister make the economy strong,” Jaitley said while presenting the economic resolution in the national council meet of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here.

“The economy has been ruined by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and its corruption. It will be a big challenge for us and our allies to bring it back on track when we come in power,” Jaitley, the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said.

“The corruption indulged into by the UPA government had drastic effects on the core sectors of the country,” the resolution said.

It blamed the UPA of wasting a decade that was crucial for the country.

“The country has witnessed a dark decade under the UPA regime,” the resolution said.

The UPA inherited a “sound economy” from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government, and spoiled it.

“The country has witnessed a dark decade under the UPA regime,” the resolution read, and added: “Inflation is one of the biggest failures of the economist prime minister.”

“The UPA government was ridden by perpetual indecision and policy paralysis,” it said.

BJP president Rajnath Singh, meanwhile, promised a revision in taxes and better payments to farmers after coming to power.
