Kuala Lumpur : The Malaysian Haj Pilgrims Fund Board announced that it has hired 2,422 individuals to perform the Haj Badal on behalf of the deceased or those who are chronically ill or handicapped for this year’s Haj season.

Malaysian Haj Program manager in Makkah, Shahrul Azam Noorzeli said the selected individuals for the Haj Badal are Asians Muslims residing in Saudi Arabia, who had already performed Haj and able to recite the Quran and “dua” perfectly, as well as well-versed in all the Haj rituals.

He noted that the accurate selection process was conducted through personal interviews with all the candidates in the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah since last April, so as to ensure that only the qualified individuals were hired, according to a report in Bernama, the Malaysian news agency.
