Teachers’ day celebrations at AMU

Aligarh: AMU School Teachers’ Association celebrated the Teachers’ Day on the birth anniversary of Dr. Radha Krishnan as a role model for the teachers’ fraternity.

Addressing the function at Kennedy Hall, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that schooling is much more important than higher classes. He said that few universities in the country provided education from class first to doctorate. He said that the most important phase of student life was education up to Class XII. It helped children to prepare to face their future life.

Gen. Shah said that all the University maintained schools will be restructured as per the Kendriya Vidyalaya Samiti norms to produce better results. He said that the acidic test of the University maintained schools lies in the fact that how many students go to IITs, IIMs, National Defence Academy and other prestigious institutions in the country. He assured the School Teachers’ Association that all their demands will be examined and resolved accordingly.

AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali said, “I am here because of my teachers”. Brig. Ali urged the teachers to become a role model and dedicate themselves to shape the young minds for a brighter future. He said that teachers are the real nation builders.

Mr. Mohd. Abu Noman, General Secretary, AMU School Teachers’ Association assured that school teachers would leave no stone unturned to take University schools to new heights. He appreciated the good work done by the University authorities for the welfare of school teachers, like inclusion of ABK High School in AMU’s fold, enhancement of salary of part-time teachers from Rs. 4800 to Rs. 10,000, provision of depositing school fees through bank and holding of Departmental Promotion Committees in time. He also appreciated the decision to upgrade secondary schools to the Senior Secondary level and establishment of audio-visual lab in STS High School.

Mr. Noman urged the University administration to hold general selection committees to appoint teachers against the vacant posts and regularize 83 posts of part-time teachers as primary teachers, TGT, and PGT. He also requested to implement the Executive Council resolution regarding the appointment of Vice Principals in AMU maintained schools.

Earlier, Dr. Mohd. Alamgir, President, School Teachers’ Association welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the role of teachers in the society. Dr. Zulfiquar, Vice President of the Association proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. S. Ahtasham Akbar conducted the programme.

Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad, Registrar of the University, Prof. Afifullah Khan, Coordinator of University Schools and Principals of all AMU schools graced the occasion. School teachers presented National Anthem, University Tarana and ghazals.
