Kolkata : West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, who is behind bars since December for his alleged complicity in the Saradha scam, Friday approached a court seeking bail.
The bail petition has been filed before the court of Alipore district and sessions judge which Wednesday granted bail to Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose.
Bose, who has announced resigning both as a parliamentarian and Trinamool member, was granted bail after spending 75 days since his arrest in November 2014.
Mitra’s bail plea is expected to come up for hearing Feb 11 when the statutory period of 60 days for the prosecution to file the charge sheet, is completed.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which too is probing the multi-crore rupee scam, has summoned Trinamool Lok Sabha member Arpita Ghosh for questioning.
The theatre activist-turned politician was earlier grilled by the ED which is probing the money trail in the scam. Formerly associated with Saradha’s media arm, Ghosh had filed a case against the Saradha Group and its chairman Sudipta Sen for alleged mismanagement and non-payment of salaries.
