Kolkata: The increasing intolerance in the country must be tackled by joining hands with all non-Muslim people who also support communal harmony, the Vice Chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said on 29 October during the 17th Annual conference of West Bengal Rabetaye Madarise Islamia Arabiya,
Maulana Nomani called all Madrassas to invite non-Muslims in their program to show that they too teach patriotism and communal harmony. He added that Muslims too fought for the independence of the country and a number of them chose to live in India. Muslims born in this country belong to this country and prepared to die for India. So, they must also try to fight against the intolerance with the help of secular non-Muslims.

Nomani expressed his concern over the increasing unsocial activities in the country and claimed that contrary to popular perception, Madrassas and the Ulama are not associated with such activities. Instead, they are helping the development of the country in their own way.
In reply to a question, Nomani said people returning their awards were based on their personal decisions, and this was their way of showing protests against the growing intolerance. Nomani also condemned the fanatic forces who are trying to disturb the communal harmony and the Modi government’s failure to protect the innocent people.
