Remembering from a time when she was little girl, Reshma mentioned how her father took her out for an evening during Ramadan. “That year, Ramleela was happening at the same time,” her eyes growing large with excitement, “and Papa took me to the mela.”
She had a great time at the fair, enjoying the rides and food. “I couldn’t see the burning of Ravana,” she said with some disappointment, “it was supposed to happen very late into the night.”
In the goodies which returned with her from the fair, there was a packet of groundnuts. The next morning, she woke up and went about her day at home as usual. Coming across the packet absent-minded, she peeled some groundnuts. No sooner did she have them in her mouth that she spit out the half-chewed bits. “I remembered immediately that I was fasting,” she said laughing at the memory, “but I continued with the fast too.”
