The Indian Union Muslim League’s (IUML) Malda District Committee, West Bengal held a public conference on ‘Save Secularism, Save India’ at Sujapur on December 6, 2017. The Conference was inaugurated by Shahanshah Jehangir, President of IUML West Bengal State Committee.
Mohammad Faruque Hussain, President of IUML Malda district committee, said that the Country is going through a wave of communal polarisation, which has to be stopped at any cost. He further said, “The demolition of the Babri mosque was the beginning of the Sangh Parivar’s agenda of religious polarisation and inciting religious hatred against minorities of India.”
Shahanshah Jehangir said, “Indian Union Muslim League has given a strong message to the Administration and Central and State government that the IUML will always be in the forefront to raise minority rights issues in a democratic manner, and no threat or coercive attempt can silence the voice of the IUML.”
He further said that IUML has been standing strongly for the values of secularism in the country, and will oppose any attempt to polarise the citizens of this country along religious lines.
Abdul Wahab, state secretary at IUML West Bengal, said, “RSS has been playing a dangerous and dirty game by inciting religious hatred against minorities, and they are wrong if they feel that the Country can be run on diktats of its Nagpur headquarter, rather than being guided by the secular constitution of India.”
Sabir S Ghaffar, National President at Indian Union Muslim Youth league, spoke of the climate prevailing in the country and the religious frenzy created by leaders of BJP, RSS, Shiv Sena in the run up to the demolition of the Babri mosque and the horrific anti-Muslim riots which took place in many parts of India following the demolition. He said, “The perpetrators of this crime went on to become ministers and VIPs enjoying Z-plus security.”
Sabir S ghaffar further demanded arrest of RSS chief for his threatening statement that only a Ram Mandir at the Ayodhya’s mosque location would be acceptable.
Mohammad Abbas Ali, Vice president at IUML West Bengal state committee, said, “Islam seeks peace and conciliation and IUML will also oppose any person or organisation from the Muslim community trying to foment communal tension or religious polarisation.”
Mohammad Salauddin, state secretary at West Bengal Muslim youth league, spoke of love jihad, mob lynching, islamophobia as tools to incite hatred and polarise people in order to win elections by a particular political party. He said, “Indian Democracy has strong roots and those trying to subvert Indian secularism and democracy into a Hindutva rashtra will never be successful.”
