The Delhi Police on Wednesday briefly detained protesters who were marching for the implementation and enactment of MASUKA (Maanav Suraksha Kanoon). MASUKA is a law that was recently drafted by lawyers, scholars and activists to bring justice to victims of mob lynching incidents.

At Delhi protest youth leader Tehseen Poonawalla, Samajwadi Party’s spokesperson Pankhuri Pathak, student leader Shehla Rashid and JNU students’ union president Mohit K Pandey were detained alongside other protesters.
Followed by the arrest of the activists, supporters gathered at the parliament street police station to oppose the unexplained detainment.
Meanwhile, in Gujarat, protesters from across the country who had gathered for Azaadi Kooch to mark the one year of Una uprising, were detained in Mehsana before finally being let go at night. The protesters in Gujarat have vowed to continue their march despite police actions and said they would not yield to anyone’s pressure.
