Delhi : “Modi government’s diktat, made at the behest of the Sugar Lobby of the mill owners, ordering the price of sugarcane be fixed using the Rangarajan formula is this Government’s latest attack on farmers and farming,” accused Swaraj Abhiyan’s founder Yogendra Yadav in a press statement.
Rejecting the decision, Yogendra Yadav, founder of Swaraj Abhiyan’s Jai Kisan Andolan said that the sugarcane farmers of Uttar Pradesh will not accept the Rangarajan formula at any cost.
It is worth noting that Modi Government’s concerned director GS Sahoo had written a letter to the UP Government asking it to abandon the State Supported Price (SSP) for the Centre’s FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) for sugarcane farming.
“FRP is neither fair nor remunerative,” Yogendra Yadav said.
Yadav termed it as a “tool to sacrifice the farmer’s interests for the interests of the Sugar Lobby.”
Yogendra Yadav said, “The previous Manmohan government had also attempted to do this but the farmers of Uttar Pradesh resisted it and ensured that the government does not succeed in its nefarious plans.”
He also said that Jai Kisan Andolan will not let the Government’s nefarious plan to succeed and promised to unite all pro-farmer organisations to protect the interests of sugarcane farmers of Uttar Pradesh.
“Prime Minister Modi should not go back on his pre-poll promise of providing the farmers a profit of 50 percent over the production cost and the same should be provided to the sugarcane farmers as well,” Yogendra Yadav said.
