AMU Women’s Club organizes Eid Milan programme

The Aligarh Muslim University Women’s Club held Eid Milan function hosted by Prof Shagufta Aleem at the Indira Gandhi Hall on 21st July, Saturday. A large number of women, belonging to the University community, attended the programme and many of them joined hands with the Club members to contribute to community development and gender equality in a collective manner.

Patron of the Club, Dr Hameeda Tariq, said that “the sense of group camaraderie, togetherness and sisterhood with which the members of the Women’s Club have gathered here, overwhelms me and I am sure they will always be there to help and assist each other in all the moments of joy and trial”. “This is what the Eid festival stands for”, she added.

Dr Hameeda Tariq welcomed the new Vice Patron, Mrs Shahida Parveen, wife of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof M Hanif Beg, while bidding a hearty farewell to Mrs Ruby Ashraf, wife of Prof Tabassum Shahab, former Pro-Vice Chancellor, as the outgoing Vice Patron.

Prof Zakia Siddiqui, President, said that formation of the Club is a ground breaking initiative taken by the Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor and the young members of the organization will devote time and energy in consolidating efforts towards educational and economic upliftment of women.

Professor Naima Khatoon, Vice President moved a condolence motion for Late Dr Aziza Hanfi and Late Prof Suraiyya Husain saying that Dr Hanfi made the Women’s College premises her home and remained fully dedicated to female education, while Prof Suraiyya Husain will be remembered for her magnanimity. A two-minute silence was observed to pay respect to the departed souls.

Prof Bilquis Nasim Waris, Prof Samina Khan, Prof Ayesha Farooq and Ms Nazima Masood presented a report on the developmental activities of the Club while Dr Salma Shaheen facilitated the induction of several new members.

Prof Sheeba Hamid, on behalf of the Envi ronmental Protection Forum, supervised the collection of used fabric for stitching reusable cloth bags in place of polythene. This project will be conducted at the Career Progression Centre of the Women’s College in collaboration with the skill development group.

The programme was conducted by Dr Faiza Abbasi, Joint Secretary of the club.
