The UPSC results have been declared yesterday 5th April. And 759 candidates have passed the exams qualifying for appointments in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Central Services.
Kanishak Katariya, a Dalit graduate from IIT- Bombay, in his very first attempt at the UPSC exams has emerged the topper.
Among the top 25 candidates, 10 are women. Muslim candidates are 30.
Among the top 10 rank holders, one Muslim candidate Junaid Ahmed, from Uttar Pradesh has secured the 3rd place.
And among the top 100 there are only 2 Muslim candidates, Junaid Ahmed (3rd rank) and Mohammed Abdul Shahid ( 57th rank).
Zakat Foundation of India that provides coaching for potential Muslim candidates to appear for the UPSC exams, has this year had 38 candidates writing the UPSC exams.
And among the 30 Muslim candidates, 18 of them have been coached by the Zakat Foundation of India (ZFI). Among the 18 who made it this year, 5 are from Jammu and Kashmir.
Last year there were 29 candidates from ZFI who had passed the UPSC exams.
Compared to last year’s results there were 6 Muslims among the top 10 while this year there is only one candidate in the top 10.
And 56 Muslims had cracked the exams while this year only 30 have managed to make it.
Among those selected apart from 30 Muslims, 128 are SCs and 61 are ST.
The Civil Services Examination, 2018 was held by the UPSC in September-October, 2018 and the interviews for Personality Test were held in February-March, 2019.
