Chandrashekar Azad, Chief of Bhim Army was arrested today and taken in police custody Deoband’s Kasimpura village. The Dalit leader was on his way to join in the celebrations of the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram the founder of Bahujan Samaj Party on 15 March. However he was denied permission for the same.
Following his arrest, his supporters blocked the police vehicle causing a major traffic jam at the Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur highway.
Azad had announced that his party would support candidates contesting against Narendra Modi and Smriti Irani. He had also said that Bhim Army would not support Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates despite the alliance between BSP and SP, until the party clears certain stands on reservation for SCs and STs.
It has been reported in the facebook page of the Bhim Army that Azad’s health began deteriorating ahd he has been hospitalised in the Meerut Anand Hospital.
