New Delhi : The police control room (PCR) would have more telephone lines to enable people to report terrorist and criminal incidents without hindrance while more public participation would be sought in combating terrorism, the Delhi cabinet decided at its meeting Tuesday.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief E. Sreedharan.
“The (Delhi) government has offered its substantial cooperation in launching a campaign against terror to ensure prevention of reccurrence of terrorist activities,” Dikshit told mediapersons after the meeting.
“It was decided to achieve this objective through public participation,” she said.
“The cabinet was told that security arrangements in Delhi Metro are foolproof and DMRC has been imparting training to its employees to enhance vigilance,” a Delhi government spokesperson said.
The police chief apprised the cabinet about actions being taken to strengthen security set-up by commissioning more police stations and bringing improvement in the response time.
“The cabinet was also informed that the number of lines on the control room telephone number 100 would be increased so that people can report such incidents (without lines getting blocked),” the spokesperson added.
The cabinet decided to involve the resident welfare associations, market associations and other organisations in distribute pamphlets in schools, colleges and hospitals to sensitise people about terrorism.
