Lucknow : No lavish, big-budget parties. No live music and dance with drinks flowing throughout the night. New year celebrations, this time will be a mild affair in posh hotels across Uttar Pradesh.
For sentimental reasons, following the Nov 26 terror attacks in Mumbai that claimed over 170 lives, the Uttar Pradesh Hotels and Restaurants Association (UPHRA) has decided to tone down the New Year celebrations in hotels across the state.
“After talks with the management of all the leading hotels we have decided not to organise big bashes, as a mark of respect to those killed in the Mumbai terror strikes,” Rajeshwar Agarwal, secretary UPHRA, told IANS Sunday.
“During the meeting, the UPHRA members thought that it would not be the right time to hold bashes when the nation is mourning the death of those killed in the country’s worst terror strike,” Agarwal said.
UPHRA governs as many as 300 hotels across the state.
Prominent five-star hotels, including Lucknow’s Clarks Avadh, Le Piccadilly, The Taj and several other leading hotels and restaurants are members of UPHRA.
According to UPHRA, hotels and restaurants generate maximum income from New Year celebrations.
Some of the leading hotels in the state charge as much as Rs.5,000-6,000 entry fee for couples on New Year’s eve, according to UPHRA.
