Islamabad : The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet fighters continued Tuesday the aerial surveillance of the country amid increasing tension with archrival, India, after Mumbai terrorist attacks.
Media reports said PAF was put on red alert and the aerial surveillance of key cities was increased on Monday a day after India said its options to avenge the Mumbai terror attacks include war.
PAF fighter jets continued flying over Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other cities including Kashmir capital, Muzaffarabad, as a precautionary measure.
PAF had issued a brief statement last night saying that the force had increased surveillance in view of the current security situation.
“In view of current environment, PAF has enhanced its vigilance,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting under the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman was held in Islamabad to discuss national security, according to local reports.
Also, US military chief, Admiral Michael Mullen, met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, and discussed the latest Indo-Pak situation.
General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani told US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Michael Mullen that Pakistan reserves the right to defend itself in case of aggression from India, said press reports on Tuesday.
