29 persons go missing in Kargil; rescue operation launched

Leh: At least twenty four persons have gone missing after they left Rangdum for Kargil, on foot.

Official sources said that 29 people, including some women, had left Rangdum on December 18 on foot for Kargil. However, none of them has reached to his destination, Parkachik, near Kargil till date.

The matter was brought to the notice of the district administration by the relatives of the missing persons. Sources said that Deputy Commissioner Kargil immediately convened a meeting of the senior officials of police and civil administration to take stock of the situation.

A massive rescue operation was launched to trace the missing persons. “Police teams have been deputed to the area to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing persons”, sources said adding, “Help of army was also sought in the matter”.

It was being believed that the missing persons might have taken refuge in some natural cave as heavy snow lashed the region after December 18.
