New Delhi : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Friday rejected the idea of a ‘Fourth Front’ and said the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party and Lok Janashakti Party had come together only for the Lok Sabha elections.
Asked if there was a possibility of a Fourth Front, Karat said: “No Fourth Front.” He was speaking while issuing the campaign pamphlet “In defence of the rights of minorities” at the party headquarters here.
“I understood that they are getting together to fight elections,” Karat said, referring to the three parties.
Referring to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani challenging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to a debate like in the US presidential election, Karat said Advani suffered from “presidential syndrome”. “This is not the presidential elections,” he said.
Coming down heavily on the BJP for allegedly targeting minorities in states ruled by them, Karat said the record of the BJP made it amply clear that they were pursuing a communal agenda.
But the situation in Bihar was different, he said, adding it was ruled by a coalition led by the Janata Dal-United (JD-U). The BJP is a junior ally to the JD-U.
Karat said a non-Congress, non-BJP government would take power in New Delhi after the April-May general elections.
