Tehran : Head of Elections Headquarters announced here on Sunday that 475 hopefuls registered to run for president on June 12.
Karmran Daneshjoo told reporters that the number of hopefuls has reduced by 53 percent compared to that of the previous presidential election in 2005.
Candidates had five days to register with the Interior Ministry after which the Guardian Council will screen the applicants’ qualification in five days time.
The youngest applicant was a 19-year boy and the oldest was 86, Daneshjoo added.
Meanwhile, the Guardian Council has started procedure to confirm qualification of the applicants.
The candidates who may fail to get confirmation from the Guardian Council will have four days to appeal with the council for a re-consideration and then the final list will come out in May 22.
The presidential campaign will be going on for 20 days before the 10th presidential election slated for June 12.
