Kabul : A large number of insurgents were killed and injured in NATO air strike in northern Afghanistan early Friday morning, the NATO-led ISAF said in a statement on Friday.
An ISAF air strike was carried out in Kunduz province early this morning against a large number of insurgents after an Afghan government agency, the Kunduz Operational Command Centre, reported that two fuel trucks were stolen by insurgents on the evening of September 3, said the statement.
After ISAF observed the insurgent activity and assessed civilians were not in the area, a local ISAF commander authorized an air strike. A large number of insurgents were reported killed or injured and the fuel trucks were destroyed in the attack, it added.
ISAF has received reports that civilians were killed and injured in this attack and launched investigations in conjunctions with Afghan officials into the incident.
Earlier, Afghan officials and locals reported the death of nearly 90 people, some of them Taliban, in an air strike by the NATO forces in Kunduz province of Afghanistan this morning.
