Gurgaon residents to repair road themselves

Gurgaon: Tired of being ignored by the authorities, residents of a Haryana village have decided to contribute money to build a nine-kilometre stretch of road in Gurgaon district by themselves.

The road in question links their Wazirpur village to Farukh Nagar in the same district.

“We don’t force anyone. Those who wish can contribute money. This road is used by lakhs of people daily. It is the only link between Gurgaon and Farukh Nagar,” villager Maan Singh said Wednesday.

“For five years we have been writing to the Public Works Department but the condition of the road is the same,” added the resident of the village, which is 15 km from Gurgaon town.

Maan Singh and 10 others have set up a camp at the roadside for commuters to donate money — if they want.

“We sit here till 1 in the afternoon every day. We get a good response from both residents and commuters and people have shown interest. Once we have enough money, we will start the repair work,” he added.

The road also connects Manesar, a hub of industries, to Millennium City in Gurgaon.
